Although it’s a bit of a climb, we are about to visit one of Fife’s most iconic spots – MacDuff Castle!

MacDuff Castle, located in East Wemyss, is a historic ruin with a rich past dating back to the 14th century. The castle is associated with the powerful Clan MacDuff, who were the Earls of Fife and held significant influence in medieval Scotland. Originally built in the 14th century, it has been rebuilt multiple times over the centuries. It was an important seat for Clan MacDuff, a family that played a crucial role in Scottish history. It faced significant destruction during the Wars of Scottish Independence. You have all heard of the famous Robert the Bruce? From his time fighting the English, Isabella MacDuff showed her loyalty to the King and not to her English-supporting husband. However, she was captured by King Edward I's army and sent to Berwick Castle where she imprisoned in a cage on the outer walls of the castle for four years. Her fate is unknown.
