A row of colourful house in West Wemyss

Wemyss Coastal Trail

About this trail

Welcome to The Wemyss Coastal Trail, a walking adventure that will take you along the Fife Coastal Path to some of our most amazing places. On this trail, learn about the mining in the area, the history and carvings of the Picts at Wemyss Caves, and take a visit to MacDuff castle.

This trail is not suitable for all. On foot, it will take a couple of hours, and check your bus times home from West Wemyss where the trail finishes. There are steps and some slightly loose sections. Suitable outdoor footwear is advised.

Unfortunately, the terrain is not suitable for wheelchairs, scooters or bicycles.

Please note that this is a linear route. It starts here in East Wemyss and finishes in West Wemyss. You may walk back (an hour), or you can take the bus.

This trail begins in the heart of East Wemyss on the green opposite the Perfect Scoop ice cream shop. Buses run regularly to this point – use Google Maps to get live public transport information.

As you go around the trail, tap the ‘previous’ and ‘next’ arrows to move between points. The picture at the top of the page is shows you where you should be.

If the map does not show your current position when you click “Show My Location” , check your phone browser setting and allow Location.

If there’s more than one of you with a smartphone, you can use the What3Words app to help you navigate. It’s free to download – type in the what3words location, tap “use compass” and it will help you find your way. Though remember, this will point to the exact location, not necessarily following the right path, so use the map on each page to help you.
