Our Trail begins at the Simpson institute, a historic building with significant cultural and community value. Established in the early 20th century, named after Sir James Young Simpson, a prominent Scottish doctor, and built to provide educational and recreational facilities for the people of Upper Largo and the surrounding areas.
Over the years it has been a library, a meeting hall, an educational centre and has provided space for recreational activities, including sports, arts, and cultural events.
Today, the Simpson Institute continues to serve as a vital community hub and warm space for local residents in the winter months. It hosts a range of activities and events, from local council meetings to community celebrations and private functions. Efforts have been made to maintain and preserve the building, ensuring that it remains a functional and welcoming space for future generations. It remains a cherished institution, central to the social and cultural fabric of the village.
