You’ll notice it’s a railway line as it’s very straight and flat.
The railway coastal route dates back to the mid-19th century. It connected Leven and Anstruther, extending further along the coast to Pittenweem, St Monans, Elie, and Earlsferry. It's purpose was to both serve passenger and freight needs, facilitating travel and commerce along the scenic Fife coastline. The rise of road transport and changes in industry led to the gradual decline. Passenger services ceased in the early 1960s, and the lines were eventually closed with the tracks being removed and either repurposed or melted down for new uses. The legacy of the East Neuk Railway is still visible in the region today. Some parts of the old railway lines have been repurposed into walking and cycling paths, integrating with the scenic Fife Coastal Path
