This iconic building was built as a bar to begin with! Built in 1907 by the Wemyss Tramway Company to entertain the miners, this was one of the key social locations for the people of Methil and still is today. The clocktower used to have a swan weathervane at the top – the symbol of the Wemyss family.
If you can find the door, why not pop in for a drink and a “blether” – the local word for a chat!
Take the road to the left of Tower Bar and follow the main road keeping the park on your right.
To the left, you’ll see East Fife Indoor Bowling Club; this building was originally the depot for the Wemyss and District Tramway Company. The trams eventually closed in January 1932 being replaced with buses and the depot moved from this location to a purpose-built bus depot.
Further down the road is the site of Methil Brickworks which opened in 1908 by Donald Rose and remained in production until 1952.
