About Point 6

Cross Union Place and head towards the modern railway station. Look for a plaque on the front of the building – who opened it and when? This is your 6th answer.

The old station opened in 1847 and it was a big event with the Markinch church bell ringing as the first train came in. When the train stopped, lots of people jumped on board without tickets and then had to walk home all the way from the terminus at Burntisland which was more than 20 kms or 13 miles away!
