About Point 9

This castle dates mainly from the 16th century, with parts from the 13th century.

It was a royal retreat, used by Mary Queen of Scots. In 1562, a French poet was famously found hiding under her bed here.

The castle has served many purposes, including as a guest house, and was restored in the late 20th century. It is now privately owned.
