Burntisland Parish Church is a remarkable building and one of the first churches built in Scotland after the Reformation, completed in 1596.
In May 1601, the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland met here in the presence of James VI, when a new translation of the Bible was approved — later published as the King James Bible.
The church is uniquely built on a square plan, with seating on all four sides and the pulpit and communion table in the centre.
Inside, you’ll find painted woodwork and an ornate plaster ceiling. Notable features include the Sailor’s Gallery and the Shepherd’s Pew.
