This fascinating trail takes you through the streets of Kirkcaldy, where Adam Smith, the father of modern economics, spent his formative years and wrote significant parts of his masterpiece, (An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of) The Wealth of Nations which was published in 1776.
Adam Smith is still a towering figure in the history of economic thought and is known worldwide. He left Kirkcaldy aged 14 to study in Glasgow but during his life he would come and go but preferred when he could not just visit but live in the town with his mother.

What you can expect to see, learn and do…
The tour will take you to significant locations in Smith’s life and the Adam Smith Heritage Centre where you will be introduced to key aspects of his life, including his childhood, education and revolutionary ideas. Each point on the trail offers a glimpse into Smith’s world and the vibrant community of Kirkcaldy during the 18th Century.
