The Maygate is another fascinating street with many connections to the town’s commercial and industrial past.
Today you’ll find a range of independent businesses in this magnificent setting close to The Abbey.
The unmissable ‘Pink Hoose’ – Abbot House – has been home to many businesses and industries over the centuries from iron forgery to bakery to house to doctor’s surgery.
Today the house is a bustling place again with a gift shop and café on the ground floor and studio spaces upstairs which are home to talented artists, designers and makers. It also hosts lots of interesting workshops throughout the year.
Next door to Abbot House is Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries – the perfect place to end our trail. You will find lots more information about Dunfermline past and present here. The museum space tells the story of Dunfermline through its wonderful collections and the Reading Room has an extensive photo collection, local maps and local studies books.
