Our second last stop in Pittencrieff Park brings us to the edge of the park, heading towards Dunfermline Abbey. You get a wonderful view as you head up towards the Abbey which has a very important place in the history of Scotland.
Some of the nation’s greatest kings and queens are laid to rest here, including Robert the Bruce, and the last monarch to be born in Scotland – Charles I – was born at the Palace in 1600.
There are two parts to the Abbey – the great nave which is the most visually stunning example of Romanesque architecture in Scotland, and the New Abbey Church which was dedicated in 1821 and is still a working church.
