The award-winning Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum tells the story of the man who was born in Dunfermline and lived a real life rags-to-riches story, becoming the richest man in the world.
Andrew Carnegie gave away 90% of his personal wealth, and supported the founding of internationally renowned landmarks such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Peace Palace in The Hague and the Mount Wilson Observatory in California. He never forgot his roots and he gifted the Pittencrieff Estate to the people of the town and, through the work of The Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, funded many public buildings in Dunfermline, continuing to help his birthplace and ‘add value to the lives of the people of the town’.
The museum includes the humble cottage where Carnegie was born and spent the first few years of his life.
Next to the cottage is the beautiful Art Deco museum hall, built by Andrew Carnegie’s widow in 1928 to explore his business career and philanthropy.
